Pollo's Poetry Corner
Moments in love is spending moments with you.
Flying high as if your heart was a plane and landing ever so gently as if my back were wearing a parachute.
Blinded by the light you love has shined through the stained glass windows of my heart.
Bring me down to earth and let me bring you the lock that is my heart, for you have the key.
I sit and reminisce about the day you looked through the shallow pools of my dark amber eyes and shushed me only to tell me "I love you."
Struck and petrified as cupid paralyzed me with the sweet, deadly venom of his arrows.
I stand in amazement as I watched God place you in front of me and told me "I made him Specially for you.", and I cried tears of joy because I can say that I am truly blessed to receive such a God-given gift that no one else could have.
Synchronize our hearts together and let them beat as one like two harmonized drums.
If I am your world, then you are my universe, Oh, how I love you so, let me count the ways.
Look in the sky and count the stars as God told Abraham, and you'll know that my love for you goes on forever.
Hold me tight as if you were my very skin.
Your scent fills the air and smells as sweet as the most innocent sin.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then hold me close to your heart and never let go.

Ski Trip
A group of 12 Tepeyac girls and two teachers braved the slopes for a sleepless night at Chestnut Mountain on Friday February 5, 2010. Luckily, participants said there weren’t any major accidents, and only a few very minor ones. But besides that, they were all very excited to be going skiing all night. Jackie H said, “It is my first time and I'm so excited but a little nervous to ski.” Karina and Jackie said that Mr. Shelton, the religion teacher, skied the entire night away. "Mr. Shelton knows how to ski except for his little incident he had with me", explained Shanyce H. Well Shanyce H. had an incident by her eyebrow Mr. Shelton hit accidentally hit her with a stick and part of her skin came out. Shanyce had to go to the hospital to get some stitches the next morning. Some girls skied and other just hung out in the lounge. "Ms. Cesario spent her night in the lounge as well, grading homework instead of skiing" explained Shanyce H. Everyone had a great time with this annual Tepeyac tradition!

Traditional Trench War
by:Rocio Cardenas
In Ms. Jamieson's World History class, the Sophomores are studying World War I. On February 18, 2010 the Sophomores played Trench War, the awesome game that has helped all of us who have taken the class understand the subject a lot better. In this game, the class is split into two teams, one on the right side of the class and the other on the left. The desks are stacked up to resemble trenches. Paper balls are used as the weapons. Ms. Jamieson puts books in the middle of the room, which is known as "no mans land". Whoever can reach the books without getting hit, has a greater chance of winning. If you get hit, you get killed and you're out of the game!
Good Luck Sophomores and be sure to study for the test!

Yo Ziggy!
There's this guy and he likes me ALOT! I like him too but not that much, what do you think I should do?
- lost in the Sauce
Lost in the Sauce,
Dude, just tell the guy how you feel, the worst thing he can do is understand. If he tries to make you like him, then just leave him alone for awhile.

Fresh Women
Have you ever experienced a boring year of high school? On Monday February 8, 2010, I took the time to talk to some fresh women about the excitement of being freshman. However, their answers were all very similar, and they all said there was nothing special happening at the moment, so we brainstormed about ways to make this year go by quicker and more fun. Their ideas were to have freshie movie nights at school, have a freshman dance, and have an exclusively freshman club. These proposals are far off, as it might be better for freshman to join existing clubs for maximum interaction, but if they really want this, they should go to teachers to try and make it happen.
Their ideas were:
Having a movie night with their friends
Having a retreat to get to know each other
Having a dance
More clubs especially for fresh woman
Being able to interact with their teachers in a especial way as family.
I began to think how do we give all this petitions to Ms. Thomson, I decided to make a list and persuade her that Fresh Woman should have a better year here at OLT.
Giving Freshman an opportunity to have fun it would help the school's popularity and prestige.

Class of Ten!
On Valentine's Day, the seniors and five juniors left on a bus to a camp site. They left to go and enjoy three days and two nights full of bonding, or also known as "Kiaros"! They will be back on Tuesday at around 4:30. The high school will host a "Welcome Back mass" on that evening. I asked a few seniors how thry felt about this retreat and they all seemed like it will not be fun. Pricilla told me that she is excited but many of the seniors did not seem excited about going. Jasmine and Pricilla hope that this retreat brings their Senior class together in time for their graduation. The juniors look up to the seniors so they hope to show a good example for us.
Good Luck Seniors!!

I met this guy on Saturday, we're officially a couple now. Do you think things are going too fast?
-Cortney
Cortney,
Yes, I think you guys are going way too fast, You met the guy three days ago and you guys are a couple. Personally I think you guys should have been friends first and got to know each other a little more before you decide that a relationship is what you want. Get to know him more before you guys go any further and also take it slow.

Shakespearean Time
by: Rocio Cardenas
The Sophomores are currently reading Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream as a class! This play has four themes: Tangled Lovers, Fairies, Royalty, and the mechanic workers. The best part though is that the class gets to act out the scenes! Karina said that she, Yaritza and Yvette are performing scenes about the tangled lovers, which are Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. This is a tangled love triangle because the couples fall in love with each other because Puck, a silly almost annoying character, gave Demetrius and Lysander potions, but mixed them up and caused each to fall in love with the wrong girl. Lysander and Demetrius fall in love with Hermia. Helena is in love with Demetrius. Hermia is in love with Lysander. Oh what a mess! by: Rocio Cardenas
Once the sophomores finish the book, Ms. Gebel and the sophomore class will be attending the play at Navy Pier. Have fun Sophomores!

!!!!Graduation!!!!!
The cheering and screaming of family and friends
the happiest moment you never want to end
everyone with their picture perfect smiles on a picture perfect day
enjoying each others company in every way
waiting and anticipating the thing that will change their lives forever
reminiscing on the great times they've had together
dressed to impress in their shiny cap and gowns
glad that they've made it through the up and downs
listenin for their names as they head to the stage for their diplomas
smiling as the cameras flash and they walk to their seats
as some teachers and the principle speak of how much they care
excited that all of the students have made there
an event that every high school student will see
the day of joy that cant be explained by you or me

I've been reverting back to old bad habits. I wanted to have a good year this year but I get lazy at times, Help Me!
-lazydazee.
Lazydazee,
I'd say find some motivation, what makes you jump? what inspires you to fight for what you want? think about it and write things down if you're not organized. Let me know how everything goes and if you need more help, you know how to reach me.

Juniors' Journey!
The Juniors have their Ring ceremony coming up on the fourth of March. We are all so excited because we know that this is special to the junior class. Receiving this ring means that we are moving up to upperclassmen. Not everyone understand the feeling of excitement that one gets when it is almost time for junior ring dance. The dance is the next night, on the fifth of March. We have started talking about our dresses, dates and transportation! Every single one of us is excited for being together that night sharing those special moments together! Special moments like this should be shared with a family like this.
Love the Juniors.

The Wonderful World of OLT Clubs
Show of Talents
by:Stefania Jimenez
Tepeyac is a very diverse school because here each girl is unique and has her own talents. This is something the teachers are well aware of, which is why they create a variety of clubs. Choir which is run by Ms. Jamieson is an awesome club, especially for girls who love to sing because they get to utilize that talent. The choir sings for school Masses, and most excitingly, the annual benefit. When Ms. Jamieson was interviewed, she exclaimed that she loves when new students join and encourages them to do so! Choir meetings take place in room 105 on Tuesdays and Fridays, so if you are interested in joining the choir, you are very welcome to come--and you'll make Ms. Jamieson a very happy camper.

NHS
by: Rocio Cardenas
Our school recently held the induction ceremony for the new National Honor Society (NHS) members, including several juniors and a senior. NHS requires its' inductees to be at the junior and senior levels, so we decided to ask some current sophomores what they thought of all the hype. Mariana Diaz was excited and flattered when Ms. Ortega told her that she could be one of the upcoming NHS inductees for the 2010-2011 school year. Mariana said, "This is important to me because it would look amazing on my college application".
Mariana Buzo says " I was honored when told I was a possible candidate for next year. It would look great on my transcripts and my resume!" Crystal de la Luz exclaimed, " It makes me happy to think that I could be an NHS member because I can help those in need. It would also look great on my transcripts".
NHS is for those juniors and seniors who have a 3.0 average and show leadership, character, scholarship, and service. The NHS members give back to their school and community; such as having toy drives for children. NHS members also help out by collecting toiletries for the elderly. Being an NHS member is great honor because you aside from looking great on transcripts and applications, members get to help people in need.

My City is Crying
By: Brandi Gates
I hear the screams
the cries
that force me to my knees
I don't want to open my eyes
to the crimes the pain
that brings forth the rain
many people are dying
my city is crying
I hear it loud and clear
but in my heart I fear
can we ever come together
and drive past the stormy weather
to the beauty that lies ahead
instead
we see nothing is changing
and everything stays the same
why don't we fight
for our rights
to become a better nation
and rise to fly above the violence and dangers
yet we don't stand up and rise to the occasion
I understand why my cities crying
